That moment, was the moment I wanted everyone to start focusing on homegrown slow-food, rather than commercial fast-food. His diabetes was probably a result of the fast food (not that I know for sure, and I know there are other causes), but he couldn’t get off it because of their financial situation… It was just a dirty cycle. A woman and her husband were being featured and she was saying (paraphrasing here): My husband has diabetes, and with the price of his medication being so high, all we can afford is for dinner is $1 hamburgers, because a head of broccoli at the grocery store is $3.99 and it’s not a meal. There was this one part in the movie that I’ll never forget it. like 6 years ago (by the way, if you haven’t watched that movie yet, DO THAT RIGHT NOW), I was intrigued, shocked, and sad. The reason why I love helping people start a garden is because so many people need fresh produce that don’t have access and it is so easy to do. My husband and I run a ranch in Southern Alberta. I also grow a lot of our own food, duh!
